A study describing the positive outcomes of CAR T-cell therapy in five patients suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus. Remission was achieved in all patients after 3 months, and was maintained even after the reappearance of B cells. This has important implications for the efficacy of CAR T cell treatment in autoimmune diseases, although the ability to generalise the present CD19-targeted CAR T cell approach to other autoimmune diseases is unclear.
