Study identifies how blood stem cells maintain a distinct lineage identity every time they divide. A protein complex, called chromatin assembly factor-1, or CAF-1, controls genome organization to maintain lineage fidelity. Understanding how this mechanism works could enable cellular identity to be manipulated in a predictive manner across different cell types.
